The romantic bedroom, a Belle Époque jewel box
Deep velvet, a tufted headboard, opaline lamps, antique parquet. The so-called romantic bedroom calls for Belle Époque posters as a matter of course. Here are 6 inspirations to create this atmosphere.
1. The Mucha dancer above the bed
A large vertical Mucha poster (or Mucha-inspired), size A2 or A1, hung alone above the headboard. Aged gold molding frame, generous ivory mat. An undisputed centerpiece.
2. The feminine diptych
2 Belle Époque female portraits in A3, aligned horizontally, perfect for a double bedroom with 2 nightstands. A refined symmetry effect.
3. The opera ball
A poster of an opera scene or society ball from the 1900s, horizontal A2, hung above a dresser or a vanity. A plush boudoir effect guaranteed.
4. Art Deco flapper girls
For a more modern yet romantic bedroom, illustrations of flapper girls (the garçonnes of the 1920s) in feathers and pearls, size A3, aligned as a triptych.
5. The Art Nouveau couple
A stylized Art Nouveau couple scene, vertical A2, ideal above a double bed. A tender, narrative effect without slipping into sentimentality.
6. The monochrome cabaret scene
A Toulouse-Lautrec style cabaret poster in monochrome ochre or sepia, in a glossy black frame. A modern effect that is still deeply Belle Époque.
Frame and mat
Aged gold molding 2-3 cm, generous ivory mat. Avoid light Scandinavian wood and industrial black metal, which would break the Belle Époque unity.
