about this poster

Wash boat moored at the quay poster, “WASH DAY”

Along a stone quay, a wooden wash boat is moored, its cast-iron stove smoking in the middle of the deck. Under a red and white striped awning, blue, red and white shirts dry, hung on hangers. Beside them, wicker baskets overflow with folded laundry. The red-shuttered houses, deep green water and pale blue sky complete this picture of a laundry day. This wash boat poster bears the title “WASH DAY”.

A laundry day for the laundry room or bathroom

It has its place in a laundry room, bathroom, hallway or kitchen. Its reds, blues and deep greens go with wicker, wood, zinc, earthenware and white or cream walls. It can join other posters of quayside scenes or bygone trades. A gift for a friend who loves neatly folded laundry, for a river heritage enthusiast, for a family who has just set up their laundry room, or for a housewarming.

Your questions

What is a wash boat like the one on the poster?

It’s a boat moored on the bank of a river or canal, where people used to come to wash their laundry. On the poster, it has a cast-iron stove to heat the water and shirts drying under a striped awning.

Which room should you hang the “WASH DAY” poster in?

It fits in a laundry room or bathroom, but also in a kitchen or hallway. Its bold colors stand out on a light wall.

Choosing the size and the spot

Measure the space available on your wall, allowing for the frame you want to use. Then compare the sizes offered on this page and check the orientation of the artwork.

For a set of several posters, also plan the gaps between the frames. Keep your decor away from water splashes and heat sources.
